Travel Tips

Getting Ready for Visiting Mexico
  • Bring a valid passport.
  • Scan your passport and travel documents and e-mail them to yourself.
  • Credit or debit cards are the most convenient way to access your money.
  • You can hold up to an equivalent of $ 10,000 USD or travelers checks without declaration.
  • Bring a small amount of cash (preferably in pesos), so you can pay for the taxi and tips.
  • Try to confirm that cell phones are capable of roaming on GSM or 3G international networks.
Ways of transportation:
  • Rental Car (Have a valid driver’s license and a major credit card).
  • Taxis (Official taxis). Recommended process to hire a taxi:
    1. The taxi service from the International Airports is reliable and authorized.
    2. Some hotels have their own taxi service.
Exchange rate:
  • Peso (Mexican national currency).
  • Exchanges houses are available at strategic places, such as airports and around town. Try to change money if possible at exchange houses located inside airports.
  • Money exchange hours time are normally from 9:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. at Mexican banks.
  • Currency exchange offices usually offer better exchange rates than hotels and banks.
Weather considerations:

Mexico is made up of several different regions, each with its own type of seasonal weather, climate and altitude.

  • From June through October rains fall and temperatures rise.
  • From November to May weather is temperate and drier.
  • The southern half of the country is fairly hot and humid from May to September while the interior of the country has a more temperate climate than the coasts.
Extra tips:
  • The voltage in Mexico is the same as in the U.S. and Canada.
  • Mexico's plugs in and electricity system is the same as that of the USA: Two flat prongs and 120 V or 60 Hz.
